Day 4 (Wednesday 17th December 2014)

When I woke up this morning I was, at first, surprised to find myself sleeping in a strange room on a bed I could not remember but it all soon came back to me and my nervousness was replaced with a more mixed bag of emotions. There was some excitement, a little sadness plus a whole lot of trepidation. I have no idea when, if all, this time stop is going to end so I am a little nervous/excited/full of wonder as to what might happen. After I raided the fridge and refilled my water bottle I put my now considerably lighter backpack on and headed down into the street below. I was sure to make a mental note of where I was staying so that I could come back later.

Again, like yesterday, the streets were dead silent. There were some cars and people frozen in their acts but you have to remember that it was only 6:43 in the morning on a Sunday so there weren't that many people out really. I felt better when I was around these people as although they could be a little freaky they also provided me some comfort so I could fool myself that I wasn't alone. The silence, however, that is what gets to me. When the only sounds you hear come from yourself your mind goes crazy and begins inventing noises for you to hear. Such as the sound of someone's footsteps up ahead or the sound of something falling on the ground. All this I knew to be my imagination for I had long since given up the hope that there were other people around. My constant searches online only solidified my beliefs and discarded any doubts. I just turned a corner and left those imaginary sounds behind.

When I reached one of the large sprawling above/below ground shopping and entertainment centres within the city I wasn't surprised to see most things closed. The only things really open now were the 24 hour shops and some cafes, though even some of them were still closed. I walked the halls filled with darkened shops offering a variety of goods such as books, clothes, toys and entertainment. They even had a few adult stores toward the seedier end of the centre. I walked past these though as they weren't appealing to me at the moment. I did make a mental note, however, in case it ever came in handy later.

It wasn't long before I found myself in one of the entertainment sections where there were restaurants and a cinema (both closed and I had no idea how to work a projector so a movie was out of the question) plus some gaming centres. I had become experienced with picking locks so I soon found myself engrossed in games such as pinball, the claw, bowling and many similar carnival games. When I checked my phone between games I was shocked to see that it was already 3pm but I decided to continue playing just one more game. As you probably guessed, this one game turned into two, and then three and before I knew it an hour had passed and I had to pull myself away from the games just to find something to satiate my grumbling stomach.

I still had a lot of pent up energy however so I decided I'd run around the centre aimlessly until I found somewhere to get some food. As I was doing this I tripped over my own two feet and fell on the ground. Then something really shocking happened. I heard a voice. A lone voice in the silence calling out to me. At first I had no idea what the voice was saying but before long I managed to work it out: "Hey, are you okay?"

When I looked up I was surprised to see a teenager of around my age standing above me, offering me his hand. I took it quickly so as not to look like a fool on the floor. We may well have been the last two people left alive on Earth and I didn't want the other person to think I was a clumsy idiot. When I did stand up his strikingly blue eyes caught mine and we both laughed. It felt good to laugh again with someone else. Laughing alone never felt the same.

I looked him up and down and saw a teenager with short black hair styled well with a very sporty figure. He looked pretty, dare I say it, hot. I really hope he doesn't end up reading this. He had told me later that night that he does read this and so came into the city hoping he would find me. He said he wasn't even sure if he was in the right city as I hadn't specified so it was a small miracle that we found each other. Or rather, he found me... on the floor... embarrassing myself. A great first impression for sure. I invited him to lunch with me so that we could get to know more about each other.

I learnt that his name was Alex and that he too had been looking for others like us. My blog was all that kept his hopes up apparently. I then berated him for not posting anything online for anyone like us to notice. I also found out that he had nowhere to sleep as it had taken most of the night and day to reach the city (apparently he had set out as soon as he had seen my blog post) so I said he could stay with me in the apartment I had mentioned.

Alex practically jumped at the suggestion and was so excited that he kept babbling about random things on the way home. It turned out he liked all the same television shows and movies as I did so we talked about that all the way back to the apartment. We walked so slowly that by the time we arrived back it was already 8pm. Alex was actually happy to finally learn an estimate of the actual time because he'd been going off of when his body had told him he should sleep and eat instead of sticking to any real schedule. He was also very pleased when I put the program onto his phone and laptop so he too could keep track of the time.

After dinner we sat around the apartment and watched a few DVDs before dragging ourselves to bed. I'm actually writing this entry right now in bed as Alex is having a shower in his room (in the ensuite of course). That was the real cool thing about this apartment (well, one of them); every room had its own ensuite. I tried to convince Alex to start a journal like this one but he said that one blog was enough and that he wasn't very good at writing any way. I think he's just shy. I'm excited to get to know him and so happy that I am finally with someone else who is like me. But for now I should get some sleep so we can explore some more tomorrow.

Until next time, this is EF signing out :)
