Day 10 (Tuesday 23rd December 2014)

So today started out much like yesterday. We got up, had breakfast and then headed out. The roads between towns were becoming quieter the further we got from the city which made my driving so much easier. This was helped a lot by Alex who always reminded me where I needed to go. He acted so much like a GPS that I had even began calling him my own little 'navman' (it's a brand of GPS we have in Australia).

The first town we made today was another little country town though this one had a little more to offer to the world. It basically owned the fact that it was a country town. It had a country pub, country stores (including Target country) and even country themed amusements like bowling and outback mini-golf. I always loved mini-golf so after a fruitless search around town we played a quick game of it. It was actually so much fun to do something like this and it was so much better than the maze.

I was always a fan of mini-golf. I always liked all the water features and how some holes were actually tunnels that you could put your ball down which could bring you closer to the hole or (if it was being tricky) away from it. I also liked all the automated parts like the ferris wheel that scooped up the golf ball to carry it to a higher section of track. We had to turn it on obviously but it was still fun to use. My favourite hole though, as usual, was the last one. It always seemed to be the one that had the most automation in it or had the best obstacles. Of course, it was also the one that swallowed your ball so you couldn't keep playing but it was still a lot of fun.

This one was a horse where you had to shoot the golf ball up a ramp and into its mouth. There were two holes in its mouth. One was closer to the front and harder to get into and the second one was at the back of the mouth where all the balls that missed the first hole went to. It was a lot of fun and I ended up owning Alex on every course. It was kind of embarrassing but Alex made up for it later as we 'christened' the eighth hole on our way back to our car.

The second town was nowhere near as fun as the first one and yielded us no results. The same went for the next three towns. By the fifth town we had had enough disappointment for one day and so decided to rest there for the night. It was a pretty big suburb actually with a large town centre with so much to do like bowling, shopping, eating, watching a movie, renting a DVD or even, for some of the adults in town, naughty shopping. It actually looked like it would be a busy town as there were already a number of people walking around (or had been before they were frozen in time) and it was only 6:43am on a Sunday (well, by their time. For us it was actually closer to 9pm on a Tuesday) yet the bakeries were already drawing a number of customers.

After another refuel and restocking of supplies (plus dumping of rubbish) we headed to a motel we had seen towards the edge of the town. It was on our way out anyway so we decided to do a quick check of the town before heading in. Although it was a very large and apparently busy town our search was still fruitless. This was again disappointing but we went to bed anyway with higher hopes for the next day. One of these days we were bound to find someone and each day we didn't find someone just led us one day closer to the day where we would find someone.

Anyway, Alex wants me to stop writing this and go to bed with him so I have to. Sorry, I like him too much to say no.

Until next time, this is EF signing out :)
